In the pre-dawn hours of 3 January 2026, the United States launched a military operation in Venezuela. A large-scale strike was reportedly carried out, with US President Donald Trump announcing around 4:20 am EST via social media that Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of the country

Captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and will face drugs and weapons charges.
